A global conference in Uganda set to explore issues of children deprived of their liberty within the justice systems in Africa
7 NOVEMBER 2011 ADDIS ABABA : Together, the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), a leading advocate on policy and dialogue on children in Africa, and Defence for Children International (DCI), a non- governmental organisation that promotes and protects children’s rights on a global, regional and local level, hosted a major international conference on child justice in Kampala, Uganda on 7-8 November 2011.
Over 300 delegates from all over the African continent and the wider world attended the “Deprivation of Children’s Liberty as a Last Resort”, which was held at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Kampala, Uganda.

Born in Italy, Rome, Ileana has an outstanding experience working for NGOs in the humanitarian/development and Human Rights field.
She is a Human Rights/humanitarian law expert and she centred her studies on peace- building, conflicts resolution, and development cooperation, before being attracted by children’s rights.
She worked in the Balkans for more than 3 years, in the aftermath of the war in Kosovo and she was involved directly with post-conflict rehabilitation, emergency relief and community services restructuring.
In 2003 she spent some time in Nicaragua dealing with the capacity building of local governmental authorities and decentralised cooperation.
In 2004 she started being actively involved within the Italian peace-movement against the war in Iraq and during that time she worked for a NGO in the middle-east, particularly in Iraq and Jordan.
Since January 2010 she is the Executive Director of Defence for Children International-International Secretariat in Geneva.
