A global conference in Uganda set to explore issues of children deprived of their liberty within the justice systems in Africa
7 NOVEMBER 2011 ADDIS ABABA : Together, the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), a leading advocate on policy and dialogue on children in Africa, and Defence for Children International (DCI), a non- governmental organisation that promotes and protects children’s rights on a global, regional and local level, hosted a major international conference on child justice in Kampala, Uganda on 7-8 November 2011.
Over 300 delegates from all over the African continent and the wider world attended the “Deprivation of Children’s Liberty as a Last Resort”, which was held at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Kampala, Uganda.

H.E Ambassador Moushira Mahmoud Khattab, Ph.D is an Egyptian human rights activist, former politician & diplomat. She is the former Minister of Family & Population of Egypt, Ambassador of Egypt to the Republic of South Africa, the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well serving in Egypt’s diplomatic missions in Australia, Hungary, Austria and the United Nations (New York and Vienna). She is also a human rights activist advocating the rights of children and women and the former Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child based at the UN Headquarters in Geneva.
Moushira Khattab holds a PHD on the rights of the child from Cairo University, an M.A. in International Relations from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and a B.A. Political Science from Cairo University, Faculty of Economics and Political Science.
